Biter

Hildy's been in a bitin' mood lately. She bites at our hands, our feet, our faces, anything she can get her teeth on! Megan woke up this morning to Hildy gnawing on her arm. What a rude awakening!
Hildy is just changing so much- she's twice as big as she was when we got her and her eyes are turning from blue to grey. She still so tiny, though, and still super cute!

Hildy's Full Name
We (or should I say, Megan) have decided what Hildy's full name should be. It is (trumpets blare):
Brunhilda Konerko Ryan-Rohlwing
The middle name, of course, comes from White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko who, like Hildy, always comes through in the clutch.
My choice for a middle name- Maddux- was, of course, immediately rejected.

Nursey

Hildy loves her "Nursey", which is actually one of Megan's old sweaters. It is common for kittens who leave their mothers too early to want to suck incessantly on wool. It's very similar to the mother's underbelly, and has the same oil in it ((lanolin) that a cat's coat naturally has. This behavior may even carry on when she is an adult cat. Read more about this behavior here.

How we got Hildy

Hildy was first heard by my girlfriend Megan's mother, who heard her crying somewhere in her house in Milwaukee but didn't know where she was. She was subsequently rescued by Megan's older brother, who found her stuck in a basement window well that she couldn't climb out of. Megan and I happened to be visiting her mother later the same day, and ended up taking Hildy in as one of our own. An unexpected addition to our family, but a delightful one!
Why Brunhilda?
Why did we choose the name Brunhilda? Brunhilda is the name of one of the Valkyries (shieldmaidens) in Norse mythology, essentially a "warrior-princess". We thought a tiny baby kitten could use a powerful name. Read about Brynhildr here.
Messy Eater

Hildy is a very messy eater. She likes to dive into her plate of food with reckless abandon. Fancy Feast and milk replacer fly in all directions until she is satisfied. She eats approx. 4-5 meals a day, but I'm not sure if that's even enough. She is, however, good at cleaning herself (even though we still have to wash her up after a meal!)
Hildy's here!
Hello and welcome to the Brunhilda blog! This is a space where I'll be posting updates, pictures, and fun facts about our new baby kitten, Brunhilda. She's about 3-4 weeks old and weighs just under 1 pound-tiny! I hope you enjoy watching her grow and change as much as we will. She's a cutie!
