Just Cute Pix...

Here are a couple of cute pix- no BS, no unfunny captions written by your faithful blogger, just cuteness for your enjoyment...

Biter

Hildy's been in a bitin' mood lately. She bites at our hands, our feet, our faces, anything she can get her teeth on! Megan woke up this morning to Hildy gnawing on her arm. What a rude awakening!
Hildy is just changing so much- she's twice as big as she was when we got her and her eyes are turning from blue to grey. She still so tiny, though, and still super cute!

Strange Boy

Why is Buster sleeping in his cat carrier? Does he want to go somewhere? What a weirdo.
Congrats to the 2005 World Champion Chicago White Sox!!!

Common Ground?

Looks like Buster and Hildy have found something they can do together. How long will this fragile peace last?
Also, the big cats went to the vet today and both behaved very well. Buster even lost a little weight! It's probably from Hildy's chasing him around the house.

Hildy's Full Name

We (or should I say, Megan) have decided what Hildy's full name should be. It is (trumpets blare):
Brunhilda Konerko Ryan-Rohlwing
The middle name, of course, comes from White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko who, like Hildy, always comes through in the clutch.
My choice for a middle name- Maddux- was, of course, immediately rejected.

Buster and Hildy-Becoming Friends?

Are Buster and Hildy going to get along after all? This picture would indicate so. (Just after I took this picture, though, she got too close and he hissed at her and ran off!)

Take Me To Your Leader

There's an alien in our apartment! She's demanding all of our catnip and tuna! Where are Scully and Mulder when you need them?

Action Hero

Hildy's quite an active little kitty. Let her loose on the floor, and she tumbles, pounces, runs, and climbs on anything her claws can grab. I even saw her do a complete somersault!

Sleeping Baby

Megan insists that I put up this picture of her "precious Baby". She is cute, and has a kind of kittenish cry when she is upset. She is, however, terribly, terribly warped.

Snoozin'

i couldn't help putting up another picture of her snoozing. She looks so cute when she's asleep. You can also see in this picture that she's getting quite a belly on her (as healthy kittens should.) Did she swallow a tennis ball?

Well-Dressed Cat

Here's Hildy wearing an Edgewood College T-Shirt, which her mommy insisted she wear. As you can see, she doesn't like it one bit.

Sleepy

Sometimes even energetic kittens get tuckered out. Hildy needs a lot of sleep, as much as 18 hours a day. She sure makes up for it, though, when we let her run around in the living room!

Cat and Mouse?

Hildy loves to crawl around the computer desk and cause all sorts of trouble. But how can daddy get mad at such a cute little face?

Helping out with the Blog

Glitter

Hildy loves the glitter balls her daddy bought for her. She chases them around, pounces on them, and holds them close to her chest as she rolls around on the floor. So much fun!

Where's Hildy?

Can you spot Hildy in this picture?

Climber

Hildy is a very good climber. Using her little claws, she can scale up the front of the couch and climb up onto the seat. She's going to be quite a handful as she gets bigger!

Baby

This is Hildy's other sibling, known only as The Baby. She is skittish and scared of everyone except Megan, but give her some 'nip and the party girl inside emerges. She too is intimidated by Hildy's presence, and has scarcely acknowledged her. Then again, she scarcely acknowledges me either.

Beastly

Here's another shot of Hildy's big brother, Buster. He looks quite intimidating but is actually very affectionate. So far, though, his interactions with Hildy result in him either growling or hissing at her. But our Hildy's quite brave and goes right up to his face!

Nursey

Hildy loves her "Nursey", which is actually one of Megan's old sweaters. It is common for kittens who leave their mothers too early to want to suck incessantly on wool. It's very similar to the mother's underbelly, and has the same oil in it ((lanolin) that a cat's coat naturally has. This behavior may even carry on when she is an adult cat. Read more about this behavior here.

Fascinating!

Here Hildy is enrapt as she listens to her daddy (upon whose belly she is resting) talk about all sorts of fascinating subjects- baseball, rock and roll music, the state of the world...

Hildy's size

Here's a picture to give you a good idea of Hildy's size relative to our big man, Buster. Buster weighs approx. 15 Hildys!

Jealous Siblings

Hildy has two older siblings, Buster (right) and the Baby (left). They are both very spoiled, so they were filled with jealous rage when a new kitten came on their turf. Here they look on as Megan and I dote on Hildy.

Brunhilda and Koala

Koala is Hildy's best bud. She likes to chew on him, scratch at him and do all sorts of horrible things to him. However, sometimes they cuddle when Hildy's sleepy.

How we got Hildy

Hildy was first heard by my girlfriend Megan's mother, who heard her crying somewhere in her house in Milwaukee but didn't know where she was. She was subsequently rescued by Megan's older brother, who found her stuck in a basement window well that she couldn't climb out of. Megan and I happened to be visiting her mother later the same day, and ended up taking Hildy in as one of our own. An unexpected addition to our family, but a delightful one!

Why Brunhilda?

Why did we choose the name Brunhilda? Brunhilda is the name of one of the Valkyries (shieldmaidens) in Norse mythology, essentially a "warrior-princess". We thought a tiny baby kitten could use a powerful name. Read about Brynhildr here.

Messy Eater

Hildy is a very messy eater. She likes to dive into her plate of food with reckless abandon. Fancy Feast and milk replacer fly in all directions until she is satisfied. She eats approx. 4-5 meals a day, but I'm not sure if that's even enough. She is, however, good at cleaning herself (even though we still have to wash her up after a meal!)

Picture of Hildy

Hildy's here!

Hello and welcome to the Brunhilda blog! This is a space where I'll be posting updates, pictures, and fun facts about our new baby kitten, Brunhilda. She's about 3-4 weeks old and weighs just under 1 pound-tiny! I hope you enjoy watching her grow and change as much as we will. She's a cutie!
